Swinter…

Swinter.  That’s what I call Spring and Summer in Seattle.

It sure is a perfect Swinter we are having.  Nice and cold and wet.  I think we should wish each other a Happy Swinter when greeting one another other or saying goodbye.  We can compare Swinters, e.g., “Do you remember the Swinter of ’75?…or of 2005?”  What a Swinter that was!  Swinter is a time to curl up on your couch, light a fire, read a book and wait the season out.  It can’t last forever can it?

Phew.

Thank G-d my suit fit. Thank G-d I was able to button the collar of my shirt so I could wear my tie and not die a hideous death on the podium. Yes, the JFS Luncheon is over – it was very successful and for that I am so grateful. Grateful to those who attended, to those who spoke, to those who organized and worked on it, to those who gave generously. With so many important things to be grateful for, is it wrong to be grateful that the extra 15 lbs. I gained this year did not require a new expensive suit or dress shirt?

I handle anxiety in a very anxious way – no “go with the flow” or “it’ll all turn out fine.”  I have to worry…wake up from sleep and worry, drive and worry, look out my window and worry, write this blog and worry.  Sometimes I worry about everything.  Sometimes I worry about a single thing, like the JFS Community of Caring Luncheon on May 11th.  Will everyone show up?  Will the talks be terrific?  Will the video really tell our story and touch people?  Will people be generous…as in REALLY generous?  I feel a work anxiety episode coming on strong – got to rewrite my speech.  Will I see you on May 11th?  I think I’ll worry about that, too.
